The Lookout

The top of the house, up its own stair. This was the pilot's watch room, and it still has the best of the light: the sea over the rooftops from the bed, the harbour from the landing window.

It's the room people ask for by name, and the one we put you in when you tell us it's an anniversary.

King-size bed under the eaves, wool blankets, a reading chair in the window, shower room, tea tray with proper mugs.

The Harbour Room

The first-floor room with the biggest window in the house. You can watch the boats come and go without getting out of bed, which is exactly what most people do.

It's the largest of the three, with space for a cot or the fold-out if you're bringing a small person.

The Garden Room

From £120 a night

Ground floor, with its own door to the garden and level access from the lane. Tea outside your own door when the sun is on that side of the house.

It's the one we give to dogs and the people they bring with them.

Double bed, walk-in shower, two chairs just outside the door, tea tray, a dog bed and towels if you're bringing one.

In Every Room, Always.

Proper mattresses, linen sheets, blackout curtains, and no televisions anywhere in the house. Breakfast is included and cooked, not a basket of things in plastic.

The Garden Room has level access from the lane, and the Harbour Room takes a cot or a fold-out single. Dogs are welcome by arrangement, Garden Room only. If you're not sure which room fits, tell us who's coming and we'll say which one we'd pick.
